DeLand Youth Council


Purpose:

The DeLand Youth Council is a city-funded council comprised of students of high school aged-youth. The council provides an opportunity for youth in our community to have a formal role in the city's decision-makingprocess.

Youth Council Members:

  • Represent the City of DeLand youth in issues important to them.
  • Identify ways to improve the quality of life for youth in DeLand.
  • Act as an advisory board to the DeLand City Commission.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must live within the City of DeLand and/or attend DeLand High School.
  • Applicants must be between 9th through 12 grade and maintain a GPA of at least 2.75.
  • Applicants must commit to attending at least one meeting per month and one community service projectduring their term.
  • Terms shall be for one year.

One term on the DeLand Youth Council will run from October through April.

Disclaimer

The position you are applying for is competitive and will require active involvement and serious commitment throughout the program. Participation will require after-school, evening, and weekend sessions that include, butare not limited to DeLand City Commission meetings, meetings with the Mayor and designated city staff, educational opportunities, and more. Students who attend DeLand High School will be given preference, but allstudents are encouraged to apply.

  1. Commit to attending monthly meetings and events and obtain prompt and reliable transportation to andfrom meetings and events, including the group-selected community service event each semester.
  2. Conduct yourself professionally and respectfully at all times while participating in the program. No abuseof any kind (verbal or physical), disrespectful/disruptive behaviors, harassment of any type, whether inperson or on any social media platform, will be tolerated.
  3. Possessing or using tobacco products, including cigars, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, "e-cigarettes," andother electronic nicotine delivery systems, is prohibited.
  4. Possessing or using marijuana, or being under the influence of marijuana, including medical marijuana,with or without a prescription, is prohibited.
  5. Be attentive, actively participate in discussions, and refrain from excessive use of electronic devicesduring meetings, training, and volunteer events.
